The power of today as told by Dalai Lama


“There are two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live”.

Dalai Lama could have not said it better. At times, it seems as if time controlled us. We all often get caught up in our daily lives and mundane routine, and forget our daily purpose. Perhaps it could be that prep test that you are preparing for, that job search that never seems to start, remodeling your home, cleaning out your closet, finishing the last chapters of your book, researching graduate schools, etc. Whatever it may be, we always lie to ourselves and tell us that tomorrow we will do it. The day comes, the sun rises and sets. You groan and mumble and feel upset, but look hopeful for tomorrow.

This all leads me to share with you that I too am tired of finding excuses. Hence, let us all seize today and accomplish as much as possible. You may not finish your endeavored task. Nevertheless, it is a start. Procrastination is the sole mass murderer of countless dreams. Let us not allow an excuse as “the lack of time”, to control and dictate our lives. The most ironic notion is that some of the busiest people I know, have the most free time.

Following are the three things that you can start doing TODAY, yes T-O-D-A-Y.

  1. Write down what it is that you want to accomplish for the day and write a goal. For instance; finish reading three chapters of a book.
  2. Track your progress, if your goal is to get prepare for that 20k. You will need to be strict and realistic in order to get ready for such an amazing event. *Kudos to my runners.*
  3. Give yourself a prize once you complete your goal. We tend to be quite selfish with ourselves and neglect to pamper ourselves. Hence, take yourself out to the spa, get that massage, go somewhere new, or do whatever makes you happy.
